FAQ

If you are pregnant now and you are planning on having newborn portraits taken, please contact us before the baby is here and let us know your due date in advance.

You can Book a” Due Date for Newborn Session”  This way i’ll know when to contact you to schedule a newborn session.

We have limited availability and strongly urge you to reserve in advance, so that we make you our priority and guarantee a spot for you. We will hold a date in the week following your due date and adjust accordingly as soon as the baby arrives.  If your baby has already arrived,  please contact us for availability.

The best results take place when newborn babies are less then 14 days old. We strongly recommend all newborn sessions occur when the baby is 6 to 9 days old.

Newborn sessions are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with a 10am appointment.

In my experience, babies younger then two weeks will sleep more soundly, allowing me to position the baby in ways that create the very best portraits for my clients. Babies are also more flexible at that age. Older than 2 weeks, most babies tend to be more alert and restless.

You most certainly can! We actually encourage our clients to at least get a few portraits with their new addition to the family.  Not available for Newborn Mini Session.

Typically, we begin the session with the newborn alone on a FABRIC BACKDROP (with an outfit or naked ) for different poses.  Then we do a setup on a FLOKATI RUG (Sage, Navy, Cream, Pink, Grey, Black,Pecan,Light Blue) with a wrap and a PROP SET  (backet, basket, bowl or little bed).

Patents and sibling portraits are done last.  I use grey or pecan color of backdrops for parents(family) and a baby shots.  And for a sibling and a baby portraits i use flokati rugs.

After you contact me I’ll send you a link with all the outfits and props that i have in the studio and colors of flokati rugs.

  1. If you are nursing I advise to AVOID spicy or gassy foods (Gassy vegetables, such as asparagus, onions, broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower),  drinking coffee, soda or citrus juices, because it can upset the baby’s tummy and they will feel uncomfortable. For bottle fed babies I advise to bring extra formula to last for about 4 hours.
  2. Bring pacifier it could be a lifesaver.
  3. The baby should be dressed in comfortable loose clothing to prevent marks on the skin.

It is best to schedule your child’s cake smash session about two months ahead of time. I do tend to book up in advance. Cake Smash sessions are scheduled during the week, in the morning, based on the best time around their nap. I do offer weekend dates on a limited basis, for an additional fee, and those sessions are scheduled at 10am only.

I only have a few weekend dates available with an extra fee of $100.  I can schedule a weekend session only a few weeks in advance.  I have a family and cannot predict family events that I potentially may miss.  Please check my schedule to see if I post any coming weekends available.  http://schedules.bookmeforphotographers.com/gbr/booking/?user=My+Schedule

We normally do three set ups. One focusing on the child alone, the cake smash and bubble bath at the end.

You will need to bring the cake, few outfits,  cake smash outfit,  snacks such as puffs and water for your child.

For the cake smash portion of the session, I do not focus on particular themes as that is not my personal style. I focus on the moment and on the child having a fun time with the cake, their expressions and details. I always use either a white or ivory backdrop, cake stand, and a matching banner based on the color of the cake.

The cake should be 5-6” with a soft butter cream icing and a light color cake inside (no red velvet). It does not need to be anything fancy, and most local bakeries should be able to make something simple. If you prefer, you are also able to bring a homemade cake. Please leave the cake at room temperature about 2 hours before the session to ensure the frosting is nice and soft.

At this time, cake smash sessions only focuses on the baby. Parents and siblings are not included.

It is a good idea to do a trial run at home a few days before with a cupcake with frosting. Some kids have never had sweets before, or have a hard time feeling dirty or messy. Giving them a chance to experience these sensations for the first time at home can make it easier on the day of the session.

I know kids at this age are on the move! Lots of falling and tripping. If you child has a small mark on their face, do not worry as I am able to touch it up in post.

A healthy child is a happy child. Please let me know within 24hrs of your session if your child is sick, has a runny nose, or cough, so we can reschedule your session.  Since I work very closely with newborns or other children, I need to be extra diligent in protecting these precious little beings.
